English: The Peace Pole was erected on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana on 21st September 2007 on the International Day of Peace. It creates and preserves a monumental legacy for peace on the University campus, in Ghana and Africa as a whole. The pole is made of a 105 years old Sapele tree which used to stand in the University's botanical garden. The pole is 16.7 m (55 feet) tall, currently the tallest in the world. Various indigenous symbols have been carved on the pole. 5 languages (Twi—a local language in Ghana, Hindi, Chinese, Swahili, and Arabic) have been used to express the peace prayer on the pole: "MAY PEACE BE ON EARTH". This is carved in bas relief. The creative carvings on the peace Pole also illustrates the history of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as well as some landmark events in Ghana and some key individuals whose lives have exemplified and or promoted peace including Dr Kofi Annan the former United Nations Secretary General who is an alumnus of the University. The carving also tells the story of technology from prehistoric paleolithic times and how the earlier settlers who lived along the wewe river located in the proposed UNESCO KNUST world Heritage Botanical garden. The idea of of the tallest Peace Pole was founded by Mr Simeone Azoska.The project became a success out of the efforts of several institutions including the United Nations System in Ghana, the UNDP, Kessben Group of Companies,Antrak Group of Companies, the KNUST Alumni,UNESCO,Head of State Award Scheme in Ghana. Key personalities who were pushed the project are Prof. Dr. Ing Henry Nii Adziri Wellington, The late Prof Kwesi Andam, Mr Yebo Okrah, Prof. W.O Ellis, Dr. Adom,Mr Francis Azuimah, Mr Zen Opoku a world class class Sculptor who did the carving
Magyar: A Béke Oszlopot 2007 szeptember 21-én állították fel a Kwame Nkruma-ról elnevezett Műszaki Egyetemen Kumasiban, Gánában a Nemzetközi Béke Napja alkalmából. Az oszlop monumentális emléket állít a békének az egyetemi kampuszon, Gánában és egész Afrikában. Az oszlopot egy 105 éves trópusi fából (sapele) faragták, ami korábban az egyetem botanikus kertjében állt. Az oszlop 16.7 m magas, jelenleg a világon a legmagasabb. Különböző helyi szimbólumokat faragtak rá és 5 nyelven (twi—egy gánai helyi nyelv, hindi, kínai, és arab) fejezték ki, hogy “Legyen béke a Földön”.
