De university cam into being insyd 1962 as de Institut Polytechnique de Conakry, de first institution of higher education insyd Guinea,[1] plus de assistance of de Soviet Union.[2] Na dem establish am during period of progressive economic development insyd de country after independence.[3] Insyd 1970, dem change de school ein name to de Institut Polytechnique Gamal Abdel Nasser de Conakry (IPGAN),[1] after de popular Egyptian Presido Gamal Abdel Nasser. Insyd 1989, dem san rename am, dis time to de Université Gamal Abdel Nasser de Conakry.[1]
