Gulu University (GU) be varsity insyd Uganda. Ebe one of de nine public varsities insyd de country, as of September 2016.[1]

Location

As of October 2016, GU get three campuses.

(a) De main campus be approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi), by road, north-east of de central business district of Gulu, de largest city insyd de Uganda ein Northern Region. Dis be approximately 333 kilometres (207 mi), by road, north of Kampala, Uganda ein capital den largest city.[2]

(b) De second campus dey insyd de town of Kitgum, approximately 104 kilometres (65 mi), by road, north-east of Gulu, [3]close to de international border plus South Sudan. Dat campus cam turn operational insyd 2011.[4]

(c) Upon de request of de Kingdom of Bunyoro, de varsity establish campus insyd de city of Hoima, wey dey offer agriculture, environment, computer science, information technology, business studies, accounting den education.[4]

History

Na dem establish GU by Act 7 of 2001 of de Parliament of Uganda. Na dem subsequently amend dat Act by Act 3 of 2006. De varsity admit ein first students den commence teaching activities insyd September 2002.[5]

Insyd July 2014, GU admit 2,500 privately students dem sponsor den approximately 250 government-sponsored students. Na de total student population insyd 2014 be about 5,000, wey dey include diploma, undergraduate, den postgraduate programme enrollees.[6]

Staff

As of january 2013, GU employ 421 full-time staff, of whom na 241 be academic staff den 180 be non-teaching staff.[4] As of August 2013, de university get shortage of 73 academic staff, according to Vice Chancellor Jack Nyeko Pen-Mogi.[7]
