For age six, Donaldson suffer unknown illness wey result in she cam turn paraplegic. Dey follow ein illness, de family return to de United States, wer na dem treat Donaldson for Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She begin dey swim as part of ein treatment.[3]

While she dey attend Wayne State University, Donaldson join de Michigan Wheelchair Athletic Association.[3]

For de 1968 Summer Paralympics insyd Tel Aviv, Donaldson win three medals: gold medal insyd de 25m breaststroke, den silver medals insyd de 25-meter freestyle den 25-meter backstroke.[3]

For de 1972 Summer Paralympics, Donaldson take gold insyd women's 25m backstroke 1a, den bronze insyd women's 60m wheelchair 1a.[1]
