editDem born Van den Heever for Windhoek insyd, de daughter give Toon van den Heever den Margaretha van den Heever (née Rautenbach). She attend de C&N Sekondêre Meisieskool Oranje wey dey Bloemfontein, after wey she plete ein tertiary studies for University of Pretoria, wer she obtain, cum laude, ein BA degree for English den Latin insyd wey edey follow plus MA degree, cum laude, for English insyd.[4] She then teach for Normaalkollege wey dey Bloemfontein but, persuaded by ein poppy, she temporarily start dey work as judges dema registrar we she sana start ein LLB part-tym through de University of the Orange Free State, wey she graduate for 1951 insyd.[5]
Career
editVan den Heever start dey practice as advocate for Bloemfontein Bar for 1952 insyd wey for 1968 insyd she cam turn senior advocate. For 1969 insyd, dem appoint am judge for de Northern Cape Division, thus she cam turn de first female judge for South Africa insyd.[4] For 1979 isnyd, she start dey serve for de Bench of de Cape Provincial Division top wey from tym to tym for 1982 go 1985 insyd, na she be part of de Bophuthatswana Court of Appeal.
For 1991 insyd, she cam turn de first female judge wey dem appoint permanently gve de appellate division of de South African Supreme Court for Bloemfontein wer she serve till say she retire. After say she retire at age 70, she agree give sam work wey dey Cape Provincial Division wey she serve for sam number of years for de Appeal Benches of Lesotho den Swaziland top.[2]

editVan den Heever continue ein love of literature, wey she rep two kiddies dema books, wey she sana rep short stories under sam pseudonym, for Sarie Magazine insyd.[1] She sana act as sam trustee of de Ballet Benevolent Fund for CAPAB den as sam board member give de SA Youth Orchestra wey na she sana be de chairperson give de SA Library board.[2]

editVan den Heever receive de Chancellor's Medal from de University of Pretoria for 1996 insyd, sam honorary LLD from de University of Stellenbosch for 1997 insyd wey 1987 insyd, she receive Women's Bureau Achievement Award.[2]
