Historically, SUA dey trace ein roots to 1965 wen na e emerge as program of de then-international University of East Africa. Wen na dem dissolve am insyd 1970, de Tanzanian agriculture program fall under de purview of de University of Dar es Salaam. Finally, dem spun off as varsity for ein own right insyd 1984.

SUA get five campuses, wey e dey contain five academic colleges den two schools. Edey provide bachelor's, master's, den PhDs for variety of fields insyd, many of wich dey center around agriculture. At least two Tanzanian politicians be affiliate plus de varsity.

Introduction

Na dem establish Sokoine University of Agriculture for 1 July 1984 by Parliamentary Act No. 6 of 1984. Currently de varsity dey operate under de Universities Act No. 7 of 2005 den SUA Charter den Rules of 2007.

History

After de dissolution of de East African Community insyd 1970, de University of East Africa, wey na ebe de university per insyd East Africa wey dey offer agriculture degrees insyd de region, dem sanso dissolve am. Dis lead de Government of Tanzania make e create domestic institution, wich lead to de establishment of de Faculty of Agriculture for de University of Dar es Salaam. Sokoine Agriculture College fall under dis umbrella den under de mandate of de University of Dar es Salaam, start make dem offer Bachelors of Science in Agriculture.[3]

Further progress continue make e develop insyd de Faculty of Agriculture; insyd 1974 na dem establish de Division of Forestry den insyd 1976 na dem establish de division of veterinary science. Dis lead to de faculty ein renaming to de "Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry den Veterinary Sciences". Plus enrollment numbers wey dey grow, de parliament decide make dem separate de faculty den create fully fledged university make e help boost agriculture growth insyd de country.[4][5] Thru Parliamentary Act No. 6 of 1984, na dem transform de faculty into university wey today ebe known as Sokoine University of Agriculture.

  • Edward Moringe Campus (2,376 ha) insyd Morogoro
  • Solomon Mahlangu Campus (1,050 ha), sanso dey Morogoro
  • Olmotonyi Campus (840 ha) insyd Arusha
  • Mazumbai Campus (320 ha) insyd Tanga Region
  • Mizengo Pinda Campus insyd Katavi Region (64 ha)
  • Tunduru Campus (509 ha) insyd Ruvuma Region.

For addition, SUA get sites for students’ field practice insyd Mbinga, Ruvuma Region; Mgeta (Nyandira), Morning side den Kitulanghalo Forest insyd Morogoro Region.

SUA get four mandates: Training, Research, Consultancy den Outreach. SUA dey offer training wey dey lead to awards of certificates, diplomas, bachelors, masters, den doctorates. Non-degree programmes dey include Diploma in Information den Library Science, Diploma in Records, Archives den Information Management, Diploma in Animal Health den Production, Diploma in Laboratory Technology den Diploma in Information Technology.

De Sokoine National Agricultural Library be SUA ein Library den de Tanzania National Agricultural Library. De library dey provide services to de university community den oda stakeholders insyd de agricultural den sectors wey relate.
