Tamale Girls' Senior High School dem establish am insyd de 1998/99 academic year as Northern Region ein first girls senior high school. Dem establish de school plus de idea of RAINS/CAMFED, ebi international NGO, in partnership plus de Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) den de Ghana Education Service wey meet de region ein critical requirements for female institutions.

De school begin plus 62 student body wey dem all bi females den 12 teachers. General Arts, General Science, Business, den Home Economics bi de programs wey dem dey study for dere. As de school dey grow, de enrolment now dey stand at 1,328 students, plus 73 teachers den 59 non-teaching staff members.

Mr. Issah Issahaku bi de school ein first acting Head of School insyd 1999. Dem put in place interim management board wey dey back am.

Dem appoint Miss Mercy Amanquandoh as de school ein first formal headmistress insyd de year 2000. Hajia Mariatu Mohammed, bi de second headmistress, wey hand up ein leadership for de school insyd January 2010 after she retire. She san, retire insyd May 2014, den de school ein management come take over by Hajia Amina M. Musah, de school ein third Headmistress. Insyd October 2016, Hajia Nafisa Abukari, de 4th Headmistress, dem transfer am from Sawla SHS to Tamale Girls SHS as demma new headmistress.
