De university be public-funded national institution wey dey seek say ego provide leadership den management of energy den natural resources den be center of excellence give dese critical areas. De university dey approach ein programmes den research plus emphasis for interdisciplinary collaboration, den take into account areas like economics, law den policy, management, science, technology den engineering, plus social den political issues wey dey affect energy den natural resources.[1]

Before dem pass de bill say dem go establish de university into law, de then President, J. E. A Mills set up sam National Task Force Planning Committee for January 8, 2010, plus de mandate say ego develop, organize den supervise de implementation of de programme for de establishment of de two new Universities wey dey Volta den Brong Ahafo (wey now ebe Bono) Regions. Na Samuel Kofi Sefah-Dedeh, a former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Services, University of Ghana wey dey chair de 24-member Task Force, plus Christine Amoako-Nuamah from de Office of de President, Osu Castle, as de convener. Based on de recommendations of de committee, de former president, J.E.A Mills cut sod for de commencement of de University for Sunyani for February 8, 2011 insyd. De Kwame Nkrumah University of Science den Technology (KNUST) sana hand ova ein campus of Faculty of Forest Resources Technology give UENR for sam colorful ceremony for Sunyani for June 7, 2012 insyd.[2][3] If estart dey operate fully, de university go get seven schools. Dese be:

  • School of Engineering;
  • School of Energy;
  • School of Sciences;
  • School of Geosciences;
  • School of Agriculture and Technology;
  • School of Natural Resources;
  • School of Graduate Studies;
  • School of Management Sciences den Law; den
  • School of Mines den Built Environment

De university be multi campus set-up wey ecurrently get three campuses wey dey Sunyani, Nsoatre, den Dormaa Ahenkro. De Sunyani campus, wey be approximately 85 acres (34 ha), be home give de School of Sciences; School of Natural Resources; School of Graduate Studies den de Main Administration of de university, plus de University Library.

De School of Engineering go dey de Nsoatre campus, wey be approximately 2,000 acres. De School of Agriculture den Technology den Geosciences go dey approximately 2000 acres of land for de Dormaa campus. De university go sana get four field training stations for Mim, Bronsankoro, den Kyeraa for de Agriculture den Forest Resources Management students, den one for Bui for Engineering students. De university dey hope say ego cam turn centre of excellence for de training of scientists den technologists for Ghana den beyond.
