After de creation of Abia State insyd 1991, de Uturu campus of de varsity cam turn de Abia State University.[3]

Imo State University be fully functional varsity. Chaw of de programs of de varsity obtain full accreditation from National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria.[4][5]

De result of de 1999/2000 accreditation exercise of de National Universities Commission (NUC) confirm de high rate den acceptance of de varsity by de Nigerian public. Na dem rank de varsity first among all state varsities insyd Nigeria den de 10th overall among both state den federal varsities.[6] Dem grant Imo state indigenes insyd Imo State University free education during de tenure of de then Governor Rochas Okorocha buh de programme stop insyd 2016.
