Na dem originally dey bell Ghanasco Ghana College. Dem establish de school for 1960 insyd by de Government of Ghana, under Kwame Nkrumah, as one of de Ghana Education Trust Schools.[6] E get student population of about 2,800.[7] E be de second largest school for Northern Region after Tamale Senior High School (Tamasco).[8] Na de first headie of de school be Kenneth Luther Purser, a Jamaican. Master Abu Kassim Tahidu from Kwame Danso insyd de Brong Ahafo region of Ghana be de first senior prefect.[9]

For 2019, de school beat Armed Forces Senior High School den New Juaben Senior High School for Ghana National Science and Maths Quiz, wich qualify dem to de quarter-finals for 2019.[11][12]

For June 1970, na de school chalk historic feat wen na Mr. Lalaji, a mathematics teacher den ein science students invent a rocket. For 22 June 1970 insyd, na dem launch de rocket de school wey de Minister of Education Mr. William Offori-Attah in attendance.[9]
